Mercedes Runs Out Of Fuel

So, the season has started and this week we have handed the writing duties over to Blansko resident, Wingy. Before you read it, be prepared – Wingster obviously woke up on the wrong side of Blansko this morning and it´s a bit on the negative side, but it does have a wonderfully happy ending…

Nine games in now, and Blansko stand fifth in the table, with only one defeat thus far. And this relative success is due in no small part to the acquisition of Brno legend Petr Svancara (nicknamed ‘Mercedes‘) who stands as current top scorer, even though he often doesn’t play in away games (his weekends involving other commitments). So it’s ironic that FK Blansko’s biggest win thus far came on a day when, it’s fair to say, he was not at his best. And with permacrock Honza Trtílek again limping off the field prematurely, it is a sign of how poor Havličkuv Brod were that it finished 4-1. Because Havličkuv Brod were truly dire – probably the worst team I’ve seen at this level.

The full contingent of ‘Klobasa’s’ were here for this one, including new recruit David, who has just recently started work in Blansko. He certainly made his mark, unfortunately not the way he’d have wanted on his debut, by spilling not only his own pint, but upsetting Craggy’s as well. But he is now officially ‘A Klobasa’

It didn’t take that long for Blansko to open the scoring. Havličkuv Brod failed to clear after some comedy defending that would have embarrassed a Primary School coach, the ball was switched to the steadily improving Tomas Jarůsek, who took his chance well, placing it into the far corner of the net. And Blansko increased their lead after 33 minutes, with Muller putting a Svancara corner away with a fine volley. Just before half-time Havličkuv Brod scored what must be the earliest Consolation Goal in football history when Blansko gave away a rather needless penalty (cue snatch of ‘Born Slippy’), but even though FKB had let a two-goal lead slip in their previous home game, there never looked any real danger of Blansko losing this one. In the second half Jarůsek got a touch onto a goal-bound Svancara free-kick. 3-1. And Mercedes made it a convincing 4-1 late on, which made amends for a performance that was pretty lacklustre (in other words, he looked knackered at times).

So that’s how it finished, continuing Blansko’s decent home form. A good win, albeit against a very poor team. And just to add to it, I won the raffle from my programme number (only a bottle of local wine, but hey…) [Ed. The rest of us were very excited by this – what we considered to be the highlight of the game]

Wingy was less impressed, and it reminded us of this…

  1. Those Bullseye clothes would be the height of fashion in Blansko! I am going to have words with them to change their prizes.
