The Blansko Bench

As we look forward to the return of the football season and an away trip to Vyskov, here are some musings on the story so far from our Blansko correspondent, Wingy…

Well, here we are, now less than a week away from the resumption of the Divize season, and here at the Klobasa there is a steadily mounting feeling of anticipation, and, dare I say it, optimism.

FK Blansko have been keeping themselves busy over the break by playing a string of friendlies (made a lot easier,it must be said, by the remarkably mild winter we have just gone through), which have allowed trainer Hajský a chance to give game-time to the full squad, as well as bedding- in new additions. Results have on the whole been favourable, with plenty of goals and good results.

So, what of squad changes? Very few, but OUT goes defensive stalwart Pepa Maška (who has returned to former club FK Raječko. Big thanks to him for his contribution, and we wish him luck for the future). But IN come a couple of interesting, and potentially invaluable members of the squad. In defence we now have Petr Coupek, a player who has considerable league experience (including a spell on the books at Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen), and who will be no doubt at the heart of defence now that Maska has gone. And up front we now have an even more interesting prospect in one Jan Koudelka, a former local Futsal player, who has presumably been signed to play ‘In-the-hole’ behind recently crowned Blansko region player of the year, the one and only Honza Trtilek. Koudelka’s haul of goals in the friendlies has been impressive to say the least, and includes a hat-trick last Saturday in the 5-1 away battering of local rivals Boskovice. Let’s hope he keeps this up when it really matters – in the league. Post-goal chants are already in preparation.

So,what of FKB’s hopes for the rest of the season? We are currently 5th from bottom, and way off the pace in terms of promotion, so a mid-place finish looks a more realistic ambition. It would certainly please us here at the Klobasa, and if we can hang on to key players for next season, could even be a platform for a promotion push. However, the opening game of the 2nd half of the season could hardly be a tougher test – away at top-of-the-table MFK Vyskov, who have only lost once in 16 games, and FKB have yet to win away from home (although we were pretty unlucky not to get anything at Lisen or Bohunice). But despite all this I am going to stick my neck out and go for a 3-1 victory for the Blues, with Koudelka netting twice, and Trtilek the other! Anyway, whatever the outcome we will be there cheering the boys on (with the Fun Club), drinking their beer and eating their Klobasa (though we may be bringing our own…)

Keep watching this space for updates on our favourite South Moravian team!!
