So this is Christmas… and while most of the Klobása team are warming their feet by the fire, listening to Slade and Wizzard and drinking ales back in the UK, our Blansko near-native, Wingy, is still a stone’s throw from his beloved Údolní musing over the team’s first half of the season. This is what he has to say on the subject…
“As it is the winter-break in Czech football (four months long, which tells you absolutely everything you ever need to know about the rigours of a Czech winter), FK Blansko have curled themselves into a little ball and gone into hibernation until March. So here at the Klobasa there is much twiddling of thumbs waiting for the first shoots of Spring to poke through and signal a return to normality. In the meantime, to fill the aching void in our lives, we will still be posting some thoughts about Blansko,The Universe and Everything.
Let’s start with a look back at the Highs and Lows of the first half of the season with some awards….
BEST PERFORMANCE (Team): I would go for the 1-1 draw at Líšen. We only lost the three points because of a failure to clear the lines near the end, which prevented a thoroughly deserved win.
WORST PERFORMANCE (Team): The goalless draw at home with Uhersky Brod. A game almost devoid of any incident, that looked like it was going to be a goalless draw from the first minute (That is the first minute we saw, as FKB had brought the game half an hour forward, meaning we missed the first 20mins. The second time this has happened, incidentally. Club, please note.)
BEST MOMENT: The late, late equaliser at home to Velke Mězeřicí , after being 2-0 down.
BEST AWAY FANS: VelMez, who not only had their own drummer, but contributed to the best atmosphere I’ve heard at FKB.
BEST GOAL CONCEDED: Has to be the screaming free-kick in the Bohunice game which David Juran never got near. Though, to be fair, I doubt if any keeper would have.
WORST GOAL SCORED: Zouhar versus Pelhřimov. What exactly was the keeper trying to do? He seemed just to step aside and let the ball go in.
WORST GOAL CONCEDED: The own goal against Velke Mězeřicí. Less said about that the better.
BEST PLAYER: A toss-up between Honza Trtílek and David Juran, but I’ll have to opt for Honza as he is left pretty much on his own up front.
WORST PLAYER: Not going to say. I’m sure he probably knows who he is.
FUNNIEST MOMENT ON-FIELD: FK Polná’s victory celebrations. To a solitary fan.
FUNNIEST MOMENT OFF-FIELD: Many, thankfully. Possibly VelMez’s drummer being told to clear off by the ’Fun Club‘
BEST KLOBASA: I’m not a big fan of said spicy comestible myself. But I’m told Rosice scores highly. And I’m also told that Blansko would score more highly if they served it with křen. So FKB refreshment stall please note. And could you maybe have pork steaks too. [Ed. We apologise for this admission (from one of our own) to not liking the holy sausage. Trust that matters are being dealt with. And just so our readers know, Bystrc is really up there with their sausage!)
THE SEASON THUS FAR: I don’t think even the most optimistic of Blansko fans would have imagined that consecutive promotions were on the cards. As we could see several times this season FKB have a very young team, and at times don’t look physical enough for this level of football. But survival is the highest priority, and I can’t see that not happening, unless there is a catastrophic collapse in the second half of the season. A big Centre Forward for Honza to feed off would be nice though.”
So, there you have it. The first half of the Klobása season is over. We would like to take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Klobása’d New Year!
